City Studio Press Class Seeks Students Ages 12–19

City Studio is an after school arts program run by the San Francisco Art Institute at several community centers through out city. Starting Wednesday, September 21st, for the first time ever the course “City Studio Press” will be taught at SOMArts (934 Brannan St.). Students 12–19 are welcome to sign-up.

The course runs every Wednesday starting September 21–December 14 from 4:30-7:00PM (except November 23rd for Thanksgiving). The course is FREE. Financial aid stipends are available for students in need.

The City Studio Press after school arts class will provide students with the basic skills to develop a critical understanding of communication, media, broadcasting, and digital culture through the lens of art. Students will learn how to create and self-publish a blog, a zine (aka a mini magazine), and a segment for Public Access Television’s Neighborhood News Network. Using media (graphics, audio, video, photography, etc.) students will form production teams that will include a camera operator, the audio program, feature writer, creative director, lighting leader, and set/scene creator, among others. Students will work side by side with professional artists and will gain a basic working knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite and Final Cut Studio.
