RUBEN
CABRILLO is based on the true story of an eight-year-old Latino
boy whose father is suddenly deported, and the boy's struggle
to cope with the effects of losing his father. Set in the rich
culture of San Francisco's Latino Mission District, it takes
a deep look, through the eyes of young Ruben Cabrillo, into
the life of a family directly affected by unpredictable immigration
laws.

to the live rhythms of the rhyming, rapping, reasoning, truth-telling,
slam def jam poets telling it like it is, how it has been, and
how it will be. The slams showcase the writing of the hundreds
of talented youth (ages 12-22) who participate in the WritersCorps
program.
