Our Eyes/Origen y Pasion
Three Mexican photograhers
Lucero Gonzalez- Maru de la Garza -Lorena Alcaraz Minor

Delight in the images made by three Mexican women photographers, who share with us their vision of women and womanhood. "This show challengers our stereotypes not only of what Mexican women look like, but also of the depth of their creative spirit," says SomArts curator Rene Yañez. "The image and presentation is very different from what we see from American and European photographers."

The photos of Lucero González Montes inspire women to take pride in their indigenous roots. The dominant Mexican culture has instilled a deep and continuing shame about its peoples' Indian roots. With Lila Downs, one of the most exciting new vocalists to emerge on the Mexican and world music scene, as the model, these photos are full of spiritual imagery.

Lorena Alcaraz Minor's black and white photos explore the relationship between a woman's body and the earth.
