The 8th Annual National Queer Arts Festival June 1 -30, 2005
A Bay Area tradition for eight years running, the National Queer Arts Festival is a month-long festival of music, dance, visual art, spoken word, theater, and film with over 50 events in multiple venues around San Francisco, Oakland, and Marin County.
Highlights of NQAF 2005 include: the QBall Performance and Visual Arts Gala and Dance Party on June 4; War, a performance evening on June 5 marking the opening of the festival’s visual art show on the same theme June 5-23; Somewhere in Between, an Israeli transgender-identity play, June 10-13; festival favorites liquidFIRE, lesbians of color offering a multidisciplinary celebration of the erotic, June 10-12 and 16-18; and the ever-popular Fresh Meat, a cabaret of trans-glam rock, gospel, hip-hop, aerial dance, and more June 16-18. Other can’t miss events include new original opera, cutting-edge literary events, innovative modern dance, fictional and documentary post-modern filmmaking, and groundbreaking visual art.
