Bayennale Presents Crossings: a gathering of artists Opens July 22nd, 2005 Reception July 28th, 2005 5:30pm - 7:30pm
As part of the first Bay Area biennial, “Bayennale,” SomArts Cultural
Center of San Francisco will host three arts organizations in three
group shows exhibited in one space as “Crossings: a gathering of
artists.” From July 22 – August 4, 2005, the three organizations,
ARTworkSF, Artship and BorderZone Arts, each bring their unique
missions and character to the SomArts Bay Gallery. The works by
contemporary Bay Area and international artists are brought together as
part of a ‘crossing’ or exchange of ideas and artists. |
The show opens on July 22nd, with an artists’ reception on July 28, 5:30 – 7:30.
ARTworkSF’s “Best of Show” artists converge with international artists in the group shows of Artship and BorderZone Arts, whose affiliated artists include historically under-represented and emerging artists from around the globe, such as works from the Philippines, Dominican Republic, Cuba, France, India, Haiti, and Indigenous nations of the United States and Australia. More than 40 artists will be exhibited. Selected contributing artists include: Richard Bolingbroke, Maggie Malloy, Fernando Reyes (ArtWorkSF); Patricia Kelly, Augusto Ferriols, Igor Ivan Shapic, Nathaniel Bolton (ArtShip); Francois Miglio, Tonel, Antonio Puri, Betsie Miller-Kusz (BorderZone Arts).
The Artship exhibition will showcase recently created works of affiliated artists and several pieces from its permanent collection. ARTworkSF exhibit showcases the most popular works of San Francisco-based artists from past ARTworkSF shows, as voted “Best of Show.” BorderZone Arts’ affiliated artists represent the organizations mission: to facilitate collaborations across international, cultural and geographic boundaries.
The three group shows are presented as part of the “Bayennale: Bay Area International Biennial Arts Festival.” The Bayennale is an artist-driven, high-energy, organically formed, Bay Area wide, international, biennial arts festival, modeled after the London and Berlin Biennales.
