San Diego choreographers Michael Mizerany of MizeranyDance! and Teena Diggs of Diggs Dance Theater (Diggs now resides in San Francisco) join forces with visual artist Patrick Dintino for OPERATION: BENDOVER, an evening of provocative, passionate and political dance theater.
Award winning choreographer/performer, MICHAEL MIZERANY, artistic director/choreographer for MIZERANYDANCE!, was a principal dancer with Loretta Livingston & Dancers and Malashock Dance, and then went on to dance with The Bella Lewitzky Dance Company. Michael formed his own company in 2000 to explore and examine issues relevant to the gay community including homophobia, conversion and/or aversion therapies, and gender roles in modern society.
Michael Mizerany’s KRUEL SUMMER is stark, brash, unflinching and unapologetic. Kruel Summer deftly combines classical modern dance and agit-prop theater sensibilities to examines the true casualty of war -– our basic humanity. A dark, surrealistic tale skewering the military, religion and homophobia, Kruel Summer packs a visceral punch.
TEENA DIGGS, Tommy award winning dancer and choreographer is a former dancer with the "Patricia Rincon Dance Collective" of San Diego. She is the past artistic director of the ambient dance, music and media art monthly performance “Project Cathedral” and co-founder and choreographer of “Techtonic Productions”. Teena has been presented by Sushi Performance and Visual Art and the Musuem of Contemporary Art, San Diego. Teena has recently formed DIGGS DANCE THEATER in the San Francisco bay area.
HullBaLoo explores the continuum of the female search for power and the balanced expression of sexuality. It asks the questions that compels women to objectify themselves through plastic surgery, vulgarity, and Bitchin’ Ho hipness. Have girls really, “Gone Wild?”
San Francisco-based artist PATRICK DINTINO has been creating his hypnotic spectrum paintings and video installations since 1999. In 2000 Dintino was invited as a guest artist to work with Sol LeWitt to create “Sol LeWitt: A Retrospective” at SFMOMA. Soon after he completed an MFA from CCA in 2001. A finalist for SFMOMA’s SECA emerging artist award, and granted the 2004 Pollock/Krasner Foundation Grant, he is currently represented by the Andrea Schwartz Gallery in San Francisco. www.patrickdintino.com
Dintino’s video/mixed media installation NEWS TESTAMENT explores the false authority and hypnotic allure of television news and the numbing effect it has on the American consciousness. Distorting actual news imagry and combining it with optical illusion makes for a disorienting yet addictive visual experience.
