El Día de los Muertos, the Day of the Dead, provides a way for
people to embrace the wondrousness of life and to welcome the spirits
of the dead. Intricate, traditional altars and sophisticated, complex
art installations are on display in this year’s Day of the Dead
exhibition at the SomArts Cultural Center in San Francisco. The
display, The Light of the Heart for the Shadow of the Soul,
runs from Saturday, October 14 through Saturday, November 4 at SomArts
Cultural Center, 934 Brannan Street (between 8th and 9th Streets), San
Francisco. The exhibition is curated by Rene Yañez and can
be seen from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Special
docent led tours are available for classrooms to view the more than 50
art works in the exhibit.
