Laura La Foret Lengyel
BODY OF WORK

November 7 27, 2000
reception: November 8, 5:30 9:30 PM, Artist will demonstrate
her process creating an original work using invited models and the audience

The model has become my living canvas onto which I apply riots of colors just for the sake of color and its impact in relationship to the human form. The BREAST PROJECT is a Visual Arts Installation Concept with Fine Art, Video, and Poetry examining female imagery in American culture since 1946. The concept came to California artist Laura La Fort Lengyel in 1994 when she recognized the need to expand the public dialogue about women's' body imagery. MS. Lengyel met an artist suffering from ailments she believed were caused by her 12 year old breast implants.

It was created to bring attention to the false and destructive mythology about the female breast, its biological and aesthetic functions. The concept of using the human body came to her as a way of using "real" women to create art to counteract the altered and unattainable idealized portrayal of women in the certain art forms, media, advertising, and pornography. The artist says of this current series of new genre works: My work with the life body pressings is a truthfuldocumentation of the real woman, universal woman, ageless, timeless, and natural.
