On Thursday, September 27th from 5-9pm, the Uhuru African
Liberation Solidarity Campaign presents the first annual Uhuru Benefit
Art
Auction, raising funds for African-led programs including sustainable
electrification, water purification, and independent media.
States Uhuru ALSC Coordinator Maureen Wagener, “With
over half of the
people in Africa living on less than two dollars a day, genuine
economic development can only occur when all the resources of Africa
belong to African people. That’s why we support solidarity with
the
peoples’ struggle for economic and social justice, not charity,
which
maintains the poverty and oppression in Africa.”
The Uhuru Benefit Art Auction will feature cultural performances,
a presentation by Ironiff Ifeoma, president of the African People’s
Education and Defense Fund (APEDF) and both a silent and live auction
with Martin Codina as the guest auctioneer. The works being auctioned
include paintings, multi media, sculpture and jewelry
.

showing at the Esteban Sabar Gallery in Oakland; Stephen Bruce also a
