Proposals for the SOMArts Curatorial Residency due October 26

Visions into Infinite Archives

SOMArts Curatorial Residency Program is a unique opportunity for emerging artists and curators to execute their bold vision for our Main Gallery space. The support provided by the Curatorial Residency enables artists to continue their professional development, form new creative partnerships, and engage community residents through programming that serves the mission of SOMArts: to promote and nurture art on the community level and foster an appreciation of and respect for all cultures.

Gallery,
 installation, 
technical
 and 
event 
production 
support, 
and 
community
 engagement and public 
relations 
support 
from SOMArts’ experienced staff.
 
Three
 residencies
 are
 awarded
 each
 season 
and
 are
 designed 
to 
support
 emerging
 and 
mid‐career
 artists, 
as
 well
 as
 artists 
exploring 
new
 and
 challenging 
ideas. This 9-month incubator has supported a wide range of artists, curators and cultural communities ranging from Visions into Infinite Archives (Black Salt Collective, 2016), WorkMORE! #6 (Mica Sigourney, 2014) to Mourning & Scars: 20 Years After The War (Roxana Leiva, 2013).

SOMArts will host one in-person and two online Q&A sessions for anyone interested in applying for the SOMArts Curatorial Residency.

Application Key dates:

Wednesday, October 26, 2016 by 5pm: Letter of Intent (LOI) due
Thursday, November 3, 2016: Applicants notified of their application status
Wednesday, November 30, 2016 by 5pm: Full applications due

2017–2018 SOMArts Curatorial Residency dates:

Residency 1: December 2017–January 2018
Residency 2: January 2018–February 2018
Residency 3: February 2018–March 2018
