Curators Amanda & Natalia Vigil are soliciting applications from emerging and established artists interested in producing work for Gathering the Embers: A Día de los Muertos Tribute Show on October 25, 2013, 7–9:30pm at SOMArts Cultural Center, 934 Brannan St. (between 8th & 9th) in San Francisco.
Now in its third year, Gathering the Embers brings the spirit of Día de los Muertos to the stage and is part of SOMArts’ annual Day of the Dead exhibition and accompanying public programming. Gathering the Embers is an opportunity to openly pay tribute to love, life, loss and resiliency.
In connection with this year’s Day of the Dead exhibition theme, “Imagining Time, Gathering Memory”, artists are encouraged to create tribute pieces that look closely at the relationship between time and memory.
Young people, people of color, and emerging artists are encouraged to apply. Literary artists, dancers/choreographers, media artists, filmmakers, vocalists, spoken word artists, storytellers, musicians, are encouraged to apply. Individual or ensemble performances will be considered. If you don’t have a fully-evolved idea, please fill out the application best you can.
