When the Underground Market started, said Forage SF founder Iso Rabbins, it was with the idea that, “what makes food safe is at the local level is not inspectors, but the inherent responsibility and care created by the local community.” To read more about the ethos and history of the event, check out this nice blog post about the reason the Underground Market is ending.
Since the market was shut down last year, each food vendor, everyone participating culinary artist must be permitted, but on December 22nd many of the original vendors will return and celebrate the success and professionalism they have achieved since participating in the earlier Underground Markets.
The final event is an opportunity to celebrate the culinary creativity of San Francisco, and to purchase locally made gifts during the day market, 11am–4pm, or enjoy music and sample hot, street-style food and drinks from vendors at the night market, 6pm–12am.
