Neighborhood Arts Services was one of SOMArts’ first programs, and its clients are a driving force in providing accessible arts and cultural experiences in San Francisco. We believe deeply in this work. Providing assistance to parades, festivals and outdoor community gatherings has been a cornerstone of SOMArts’ approach to supporting San Francisco’s creative and cultural communities for several decades. However, the program’s operating landscape has changed dramatically since the program’s inception in the late 1970’s.
Due to rising operating costs and a lack of affordable options for space on the horizon, the Board of Directors at SOMArts Cultural Center has made the difficult decision to discontinue the program. Click here to read an official statement from SOMArts’ Executive Director Maria Jenson and current Neighborhood Arts Services Director Zach Slater on the closure of the Neighborhood Arts Services program.
SOMArts has compiled the resources below, including referrals for alternative staging companies, to ease this transition for former Neighborhood Arts Services clients. If you have worked with other vendors you would recommend, please email Sarah Pritchard at email@example.com, so she can add them to the resource list for the benefit of all.
