After an extensive executive search conducted by SOMArts’ Board of Directors with valuable input from key members of our community, SOMArts is thrilled to announce that Maria Jenson will join SOMArts as our new Executive Director.

As Ryan Kost of the San Francisco Chronicle observed in the breaking story, “Maria will take on the role of executive director for an organization that, in the midst of soaring housing prices resulting in displacement of grassroots arts, is seen by many as an essential part of the city’s arts ecosystem.”

Maria’s talent for building innovative partnerships that foster a sustainable environment for Bay Area artists and arts organizations will help SOMArts to build on our 37 year history of providing support services for the arts community and producing bold, socially engaged art for diverse audiences.

More about our new Executive Director: Maria Jenson comes to SOMArts from SFMOMA, where she has been a key member of the External Relations team that managed the May 14, 2016 reopening of the museum after its expansion. Prior to serving as Community Relations and Public Partnerships Manager at SFMOMA, Maria was the Founding Director of ArtPadSF— an independent art fair that transformed the Phoenix Hotel into an immersive and interactive platform to engage Bay Area artists, gallerists and art lovers. A student of dance, theater and screenwriting, Maria’s work with artists emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches— a strong fit for SOMArts where artists working across many different disciplines come together to address pressing social issues.
