Faces of SOMArts–Lynne Jones
What Bay Area neighborhood do you call home?
I have spent most of my “home space” in North Beach and the Marina. Presently, I am staying with my daughter and her husband near SF City College (transitioning). They call the area Sunnyside but this year it is not living up to its name! My heart is still in North Beach and I hope to return to that area soon.
What brings you to SOMArts?
SOMarts fell into my lap via NCOA (National Council on Aging) which is ever-changing.
Describe your most enjoyable experience at SOMArts today?
My most enjoyable experience today is having a wonderful piece of chocolate.
What would you do if you had no financial limitations?
If my finances were limitless I would feed, clothe and educate as many people as possible and deliver the food and clothing personally (hopefully traveling far and wide).
What’s your secret talent?
My “secret” talent would probably be methods, i.e., finding the most efficient way to get a project finished. My not so “secret” talent would be food and/or gourmet cooking.

Earth Day Weekend: Garden Beautification Day

When: Saturday April 23, 2011 from 11:00am–4:00pm
Where: SOMArts Cultural Center (934 Brannan @8th)
Cost: FREE!
Following Earth Day this Friday April 22nd, we are eager to tackle the winter growth in our garden and patio. Join us for a fun afternoon of digging in the dirt, pulling out the weeds and getting the garden ready for all of the great events coming up this spring and summer. All volunteers are welcome.
We will develop a work plan with Amber Hasselbring of Mission Greenbelt Project, our official garden guru and artist extraordinaire. In fact, recently Amber was selected as one of the artists for the Art on Market Street. project with the Arts Commission so it is great to welcome her artistic vision (and naturalist vision) back to the garden at SOMArts.
We will have the tasks and the tools ready and we will serve up drinks and refreshments to keep the troops happy. Come and join us – when you are enjoying a nosh in the garden this summer during an event, you will thank yourself and we will thank you, too. For more information or to RSVP, email volunteer@somarts.org or phone 415-863-1414, x111.

Volunteers Needed For Gardening Day At SOMArts July 31
SOMArts needs you! We are hosting another gardening party/work day where we will be installing a drip irrigation system in our garden and planting in the patio area.
Some of you may have enjoyed arts in the garden during the recent one-night-only exhibition “Night Light,” and earlier this year during “MOMENTS: Bring Back The Now.” In the fall and winter the garden is used by a variety of community events including the Bicycle Coalition’s Winterfest, Day of the Dead and others. This is your chance to pitch in and keep this space lovely and welcoming.
Please RSVP through EventBrite at http://gardeningparty.eventbrite.com. If you haven’t already filled out our volunteer profile, you can do it now and save time on the 31st. Help us get to know a little bit more about your skills and interests.
